First off, I was completely impressed with this video. I loved how engaged the students were and how excited they were to be at school. I feel the use of technology really helped these students to understand while having fun. They had to start off doing things such as research and problem solving but eventually got the opportunity to go out and DO it. I have never seen anything like this type of teaching before. It is amazing what can be accomplished in a classroom and how they can still have fun and meet the learning standards. I feel that this is how teaching is going to be very soon. I feel with the use of technology it is important to not only tell students about different subjects or places but to physically show them or take them.
On the other hand this type of learning would take a lot of hard work and there would need to be more then just one teacher in a classroom. I feel many teachers could follow this type of a teaching to an extent but not all teachers have this kind of technology in their classroom to be able to teach this way. Not all schools can afford Smart Boards or the materials needed to create a plane. There is a lot of materials needed in order to do those types of things. With technology schools have it is easier to take this path to an extent. Teachers could teach the lessons best to their ability. They could still research different topics and show the videos and pictures instead of explaining.
These types of lessons let the students truly experience the atmosphere for themselves. I also enjoyed how the students were learning content matter in real life situations. It is important to do since students can learn and understand better if they can relate it to real life scenarios. I feel the interaction part is also key. Students need to learn how to be life-long thinkers as well as how to interact with others. You could be the smartest person, subject wise, but if you can't interact it would be hard to go very far.
The teachers would use technology to teach basic lessons on letters as well as to answer students questions. The students got a better understanding compared to just being told. The students got to study the map and really understood that their town isn't the only place in the world. It really gave the students out outside view. I really enjoyed watching this video and seeing how learning really can be fun. Technology is an important piece in the school systems today and it if the tool is there it is vital to use it.

ReplyDeleteI think that the point that stood out to me the most in your response was how much hard work it must be to be a teacher at this school and how much cooperation between teachers there must be. In order to have a school such as this, everyone must be of one mind. Every school I have ever taught in has had many different personalities and styles in the classroom. I really wonder how this school keeps all of their teachers on the same page. They must have amazing communication and excellent leadership.
I really like how this video demonstrates the use of technology, but more importantly, I love how it demonstrates how authentic instruction can be used across the curriculum. Technology really is vital in education of the future.
